MAHORAGA: THE ULTIMATE SHIKIGAMI OF JUJUTSU KAISEN EXPLAINED

Who is Mahoraga?

Jujutsu Kaisen has been thrilling fans with its amazing episodes lately. The Shibuya Incident arc has been full of intense and epic fights between jujutsu sorcerers and curses. One of the most anticipated battles was between Sukuna, the King of Curses, and Jogo, the strongest of the special grade curses. However, that was not the end of Sukuna’s rampage, as he faced another formidable opponent: a shikigami summoned by Megumi Fushiguro, one of the main protagonists of the series. This shikigami was unlike any other, as it challenged Sukuna to a fierce and bloody duel. Who is this shikigami, and why is it so powerful? In this article, we will explore the identity and abilities of this mysterious and fearsome shikigami.

One of the most mysterious and powerful shikigami in the series is Mahoraga, also known as the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga. This shikigami is considered the ultimate weapon of the Zenin clan, the family that possesses the Ten Shadows Technique, but no one has ever been able to tame it or command it. In fact, summoning Mahoraga is more like a ritual of exorcism, where the user has to defeat it in order to gain its respect and loyalty.

Mahoraga is a towering, muscular humanoid figure with four wings protruding from its eye sockets and a tail-like appendage extending from the back of its head. Hovering just above this is a large eight-handled wheel that rotates as Mahoraga responds to new stimuli. Mahoraga also wears black hakama bottoms and a white sash around its waist to cover most of its lower body. It also wields the Sword of Extermination, a blade attached to its forearm that is enveloped in positive energy, making it especially effective against cursed spirits.

Mahoraga is a formidable opponent that can adapt to any and all phenomena. If it is injured by a particular attack, the eight-handled wheel will turn, allowing it to adapt. If its adversary uses that same technique again, Mahoraga will counter it. This works offensively as well, adapting its attacks to efficiently break through its opponent’s defenses. Mahoraga’s overwhelming physical prowess also allows it to shatter concrete or to hit someone through multiple buildings with a single blow.

How does one summon Mahoraga?

Unlike other shikigami, Mahoraga does not require the user to form a shadow puppet with their hands to manifest it. Instead, the user simply extends both arms forward at a slight upward angle with their fists closed. The user then recites an incantation that goes like this: “With this treasure, I summon Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga”. In Japanese, it is pronounced as “Furube Yurayura Yatsuka-no-Tsurugi Ikaishinshō Makora”.

The first and only person who summoned Mahoraga in the anime was Megumi Fushiguro, a jujutsu sorcerer and one of the main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen. He summoned Mahoraga in episode 24 of the anime, when he was facing a curse user named Haruta Shigemo, after been weakened from an earlier fight with Toji.

Megumi summons mahoraga

Despite the dangers, Megumi recognizes that Mahoraga is his only chance for survival. He performs the complex summoning ritual, pouring his remaining cursed energy into the process. As the ritual reaches its climax, a colossal figure emerges from the shadows – Mahoraga, the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General. However, Mahoraga attacked both Megumi and Haruta, and even managed to injure Haruta with its sword. Megumi was on the verge of death, until he was saved by Sukuna, the King of Curses, who had taken over Yuji’s body.

Megumi's summoning of Mahoraga was a gamble, a last-ditch effort to survive an encounter with a far superior foe. He understood the risks involved, as Mahoraga's immense power and uncontrollable nature made it a dangerous force to wield. However, he was driven by an unwavering determination to protect himself and his allies, and he recognized that Mahoraga was his only hope in that dire situation.

Sukuna then challenged Mahoraga to a fight, and proved to be the only one who could match its adaptive abilities. Sukuna used his Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine, to trap Mahoraga and unleash his full power. Sukuna then sliced off Mahoraga’s arm and head, and declared himself the winner. However, Mahoraga was not dead yet, and regenerated its wounds. Sukuna then decided to spare Mahoraga, and told it to serve Megumi from now on. Mahoraga then bowed to Sukuna and Megumi, acknowledging them as its masters.

Why is Mahoraga so powerful?

Mahoraga is so powerful because it has the ability to adapt to any and all phenomena. This means that it can counter any attack or technique that is used against it, and also use the most effective attack or technique to defeat its opponent. Mahoraga’s physical strength and speed are also very high, and it can regenerate from injuries quickly. Mahoraga also wields the Sword of Extermination, which is a weapon that can cut through curses and positive energy. Mahoraga is considered the ultimate weapon of the Zenin clan, the family that possesses the Ten Shadows Technique, which allows them to summon shikigami. However, no one has ever been able to tame or command Mahoraga, except for Sukuna, the King of Curses, who defeated it in a fierce battle
