Recently, Epic Game Store announced that it will launch a self-publishing feature on March 9th, allowing game developers to upload their own games to the store for the first time. Previously, only invited developers could submit games. To submit a game, developers must create an Epic account, pay a $100 fee per game, submit the project, and wait for evaluation. Games containing inappropriate content, copyright violations, or viruses will not be accepted.
Compared to Steam, Epic Game Store only takes a 12% cut of the game income share, making it a more affordable option for developers. If in-game purchases are made using Epic's payment system, the company will waive the royalty fees for games. Cross-play must be allowed for games with online multiplayer offered on other PC marketplaces.
The addition of this feature is expected to bring more games to the Epic Game Store, increasing competition with Steam. However, the platform's ability to handle the significant growth of its game library remains a concern.
